Beautiful Kaptai Lake at Rangamati in Bangladesh

Kaptai Lake is a beautiful man made lake in south-eastern Bangladesh. Covering an area of approximately 11,000 square kilometers, this lake is the largest lake in Bangladesh. The lake is located in Rangamati, a hilly district in Bangladesh. 


This beautiful blue lake was created as a reservoir when the Kaptai dam was built on the river Karnaphuli during the 1960s. The lake is confined within Rangamati District and embraces different upazillas of the district. The average depth of the Kaptai lake is 100 feet.


The Hanging Bridge across a portion of Kaptai lake adds to the beauty of the lake. This 335 feet long bridge has become an icon of Rangamati.


The Kaptai Lake is the main attraction of Rangamati. It has become a very popular spot to the tourists from home and abroad. Cruising on the Kaptai Lake is an enjoyable way of observing the beautiful hilly landscape of south-eastern Bangladesh. You can easily access different natural landmarks and historic monuments by boats.

Kaptai lake is 74 kilometer from the Port City - Chittagong, the second largest city in Bangladesh. It takes around 2 hours to reach at Kaptai from Chittagong.
