The Petra Archaeological Park, Jordan

The Petra Archaeological Park is a historical and archeological site in Jordan. It covers an area of 264,000 square meters within Wadi Musa. The park is, without any doubt, Jordan’s most valuable treasure and greatest tourist attraction. It is a World Heritage Site registered since 1985.

The Petra Archeological Park encompasses a breathtaking landscape of pink-hued rock mountains, the focus of which is the amazing ancient city of Petra. The city was carved into the rock more than 2,000 years ago.  Petra is famous for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system.

Petra is a vast, unique city, carved into the sheer rock face by the Nabataeans. The city was established possibly as early as 312 BC as the capital city of the Nabataeans. Today, it is a symbol of Jordan, as well as the country's most visited tourist attraction. The Petra Archeological Park is a world wonder.

Petra is one of the most precious cultural properties of man's cultural heritage. Today the elegant site is known as the Pink City because of the rose-hued sandstone used to create the phenomenal palaces and tombs. It’s perhaps most stunning at dusk, when the ancient city is aglow with thousands of candles.
