For example, if you live near a small airport that can transport you to a larger airport for your connections, it may be smarter to pay the extra money to take the smaller plane near home than to drive to the larger one farther away. Will the cheaper price on the larger plane really save you money? How much will you spend to get to the larger airport? How much more aggravation will you have to endure? Is it worth it? If the savings is not substantial, pay the extra money to travel from your hometown airport to the larger one. You will be glad you did.

Flexibility in your scheduling can save you money. If you can travel mid-week instead of on the weekend, you may be more likely to pay a better price for your ticket. Since the weekends – Thursday through Sunday – are the busiest travel days of the week, airlines take advantage of it. Departure flexibility will also allow for a lower priced airfare. Leaving very early is less expensive than leaving mid morning. The more flexible you can be, the better price you will pay for your ticket.

Over the last five years Europe has seen an increase in the number of low cost airlines which is great news for the holidaymaker, but many say bad news for the high street travel agent.

I remember a friend looking to take her husband away for the weekend to Dublin, Ireland and went to a high street travel agent. She was given a quote of £300 for a weekend, including flights and accommodation - book the same flight with Ryanair and a hotel in the centre of Dublin direct with the hotel, and the weekend actually cost her only £190 again including flights and accommodation - a saving of £110.

Book in plenty of time

The later you leave it the more expensive the flight becomes, most airlines charge more if you book the ticket a few days or even a week before you want to departure, so the earlier you book it the cheaper the flight will cost.

Weekend departures

If you book your flight for the weekend then the ticket will cost you more money, as most people travel at the weekend, so try and book the flight departure during the week, and not only will your flight be cheaper but you’ll probably find that they will be more accommodation special offers

Travel agent flight booking

Don’t book your flight through a travel agent, simply because you’ll be charged more than booking direct with the airline - you have to remember that the travel agents in most cases add on commission to the flight, they have to make a living, but why should you pay more.

It can be very difficult to travel by airplane with young kids. When you travel by car you can stop every few hours and let your toddler get a little exercise. If you want toilet paper, carry it with you at all times. There are no guarantees that it will be in any bathroom in India.

5 Tips For Easy Air Travel

There's no denying that it has become more and more difficult to fly without running into snags or problems with the airport or the airlines. 1. Get to the Airport Early

Weather - You need to know what you should be packing and planning for.

Paperwork and Documentation - Know what is needed to travel to your particular destination.

Know if there are any diseases common to the area you will be traveling to – this way you are able to take preventative measures.

Costs of local items – You want to be able to properly plan your budget; remember to include taxes and tipping.

Holidays and festivals – check to see when these occur for your destination as you may find limited services on those days.
